KILN, Miss. (WLOX) - Governor Tate Reeves cut the ribbon on the I-ATLAS building earlier today.
This mapping center, formerly known as JABLTCX, will help multiple organizations get a better understanding of what’s below the water.
Chris Macon with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the data will help the state in multiple ways.
“It’s going to help us get larger vessels into our ports so we can decrease the cost of goods arriving and departing from the US,” said Macon. ”From a military aspect, it will make sure that our ships are able to navigate the waters, take the safest and shortest possible route to get through the areas.”
I-ATLAS will provide data for multiple groups, including NOAA and the Army Corps of Engineers.
