With holiday shopping in full swing and online orders surging, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is urging residents to take extra precautions to protect their packages from so-called “porch pirates.”
Deputies say thieves often look for boxes left in plain view on porches, doorsteps, or sticking out of mailboxes, making unattended deliveries an easy target. The Sheriff’s Office is sharing several tips to help prevent package theft as more gifts are shipped to homes across the county.
Recommended Safety Measures:
Keep deliveries out of sight and consider using a secure lockbox.
Track packages closely and arrange for a trusted neighbor or family member to retrieve them when they arrive.
Require a signature for high-value items.
