CHERRY POINT, N.C. (WITN) - It wasn’t the sound of sleigh bells ringing into Cherry Point, but FedEx trucks rolling in filled with Christmas trees, to kick off the holidays for military members and their families.
“This is an awesome program, it helps out a lot of people that want to get trees in the Marine Corps,” U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Daniel Sippel said.
On Friday, volunteers braved the rain to unload 425 trees for active duty service members and retirees to snag as part of the 21st annual Trees for Troops program.
“This is an opportunity to give back,” Cherry Point community services director Jonathan Mason said. “In the giving season, there is nothing better than to give back to our Marines and Sailors here at Cherry Point.”
