SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — South Fulton City Councilmember Carmalitha Gumbs is the projected winner of the mayoral runoff race.
Gumbs defeated her opponent, former Councilmember Mark Baker.
"I'm just overwhelmed, but I'm excited because the people spoke," she said. "They are ready for leadership, and they are ready for change in South Fulton. So, that's what's important to me, and they have the confidence in my leadership to move the city forward."
She thanked her supporters and everyone for coming out to vote in the runoff. Gumbs will be the first woman to hold the mayoral seat in South Fulton.
"I appreciate them going on this journey with me and that as a city, whether you voted for me or not, I am your mayor," she declared.
