BIRMINGHAM — With it being the dead period during the AHSAA Super 7 state championships, college football coaches couldn't be in attendance at Protective Stadium to watch their prospects compete in title games. But that didn't stop Texas quarterback KJ Lacey from attending to watch his former team compete for a Class 6A title game.
In 2023, Lacey competed in the 6A title game against Clay-Chalkville but fell short by three points to the Cougars. Two years later he finds himself back on the sidelines for Saraland but this time as a supporter instead of quarterback.
Lacey went on to win in Mr. Football in Alabama, completing 219 of 315 passes for 3,448 yards and 42 TD in the 2023 season. Lacey also set a record for most passing yards in an AHSAA Super 7 Class 6A title game with 389 pas
