Kade Koroneos rushed for a record 415 yards and scored a stunning seven touchdowns to lead Wheeling Central Catholic to a 56-34 win over Clay-Battelle for the WVSSAC Class A state football championship at Laidley Field in Charleston.
That win gives the Maroon Knights (10-2) 13 state championships in its history.
Clay-Battelle pulled ahead 20-7 early in the second quarter, but after that, the Maroon Knights pulled away. By the middle of the third quarter, Central was ahead 42-20 and in complete control of the game. Koroneos was the catalyst, as well as the workhorse, carrying the ball 41 times.
