Several Las Virgines Unified campuses were momentarily placed under lockdown Friday while police say they were searching for a man suspected of making threats at the schools in the area.

Authorities received a call around 2:26 p.m. from a father who alerted police about his son, who took his car without authorization and made threats to hurt children, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Three Ventura County schools were placed on lockdown as the search for the man ensued with the help of the LA County Sheriff's Department, which was notified of the suspect.
