Deepfake regulation bill tabled in LS

Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde on Friday introduced a Private Member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha seeking a dedicated legal framework to regulate deepfakes and protect individuals from misuse of the technology.The Regulation of Deepfake Bill proposes mandatory prior consent from people depicted in deepfake content and outlines penalties for creating or sharing manipulated media with malicious intent.“Misuse of deepfakes for harassment, deception and misinformation has escalated, creating an urgent need for regulatory safeguards,” Shinde said while introducing the Bill.
