JACKSON TWP. − Like most retailers the St. Raphael Center at 4365 Fulton Drive NW has plenty of Christmas items available for sale.

What makes St. Raphael different is that the lobby includes a life-sized replica of St. Nicholas, which includes audio narrative about the true meaning of Christmas.

St. Raphael owner Barbara Gaskell said it is important to offer an accurate narrative of Christmas.

"A lot of people aren't familiar with the story," said Gaskell, who made St. Nicholas' outfit herself.

"He was wealthy, and he used his wealth to help other people. We can give to others who are in need. If you're a follower of Jesus, it's about helping others. That sometimes gets lost in all the craziness. I really want people to know his story. I think it's so important."
