A Missouri lawmaker has introduced a bill that would ban AI from being recognized as a person, including prohibiting it from getting married in the state.
The bill , which was introduced by Rep. Phil Amato, would bar any AI system from "any form of legal personhood" and formally designate them as non-sentient under state law. This includes recognizing AI as a legal spouse or domestic partner, whether it be between a human or another AI system.
It would also ban AI from serving in any kind of leadership role within a company, as well as prevent AI systems from owning any property, including real estate, financial accounts and digital assets.
