Drivers across the UK are being urged to put a pair of old socks on their windscreen wipers this winter to help protect against cold weather .

The winter season is now underway and the country has already had its first taste of icy conditions , with temperatures plummeting as low as -11C in some parts at the end of November during a bout of chilly weather. The Met Office is warning of potentially disruptive weather next week, with heavy rain and strong winds expected from late Monday until Wednesday. As we head further into December, it is likely that temperatures will continue to fall with the national forecaster’s long range weather forecast from December 10 to 19 forecasting some snow in northern parts of the country.
