It could be said that slowpitch softball is a family affair for Sophia Tumelty.

“My sister did slowpitch, and she always told me how much fun it was,” the Union senior said referring to her sister Maggie Tumelty. “And then fall is kind of like a slower season for me, so I wanted something to do. So I said I’d do slowpitch too.”

That was her freshman year at Union. Now, four years later, she does not regret the decision.

“I’m really glad I did (slowpitch) because it’s a really fun community, and it’s just a lot of fun,” Sophia Tumelty said.

And now Sophia Tumelty has something else in common with her sister. Like Maggie Tumelty was in 2022, Sophia Tumelty is The Columbian’s All-Region slowpitch softball player of the year for 2025.
