Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ has finally reached cinemas after a turbulent journey marked by uneven advance sales and fluctuating audience sentiment. The spy thriller, set in Pakistan in the early 2000s and inspired by true events, stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian operative working to dismantle the Lyari gangs. The film also features Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan.
Advance bookings were erratic, with an encouraging start soon slowing before gathering pace again as release day drew nearer.
That stop-start pattern continued on Friday, December 5, when the film opened across 5,000 screens nationwide. With advance bookings amounting to just over ₹9 crore, ‘Dhurandhar’ needed robust walk-ins to hit a respectable opening figure.
