Four days into the crisis at IndiGo, the government has buckled. The crew rostering norms, which mandates fewer allowable night duties and longer mandatory rest periods has been paused, not just for IndiGo, but for all airlines.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday (December 5) announced a series of urgent measures, placing the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) orders in abeyance with immediate effect.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the step has been taken "solely in the interest of passengers" without compromising safety, as airlines grapple with widespread schedule disruptions.
