About 300 Indiana National Guard soldiers have arrived in Washington to support efforts the federal government has deemed necessary for peace and safety.

The guardsmen arrived on Saturday as part of what is being called the "D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission," according to a Sunday news release.

They will assist local and federal law enforcement partners, conduct community safety patrols and manage traffic control posts to reduce crime, minimize property damage and keep the peace, the Indiana National Guard said in the release.
