LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska has found their replacement at defensive coordinator.

Less than a week after the firing of John Butler , ESPN’s Pete Thamel says the Cornhuskers have hired San Diego State defensive coordinator Rob Aurich as the latest defensive play-caller.

Aurich also coached defensive edges for the Aztecs. He was also the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of Idaho for two seasons.

Aurich’s defense put up 32 sacks as a team, and only allowed 12.5 points a game in the Mountain West Conference this season. The Aztecs went 9-3 in 2025.

This hiring also comes after Nebraska let go of offensive line coach Donovan Raiola .
