Tensions along the Thailand–Cambodia border escalated sharply on Monday after a Thai soldier was killed and several others wounded in fresh clashes, prompting Thailand to launch targeted air strikes against Cambodian positions amid mutual accusations of violating a longstanding ceasefire.
Thai army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvaree said the fighting began early Monday when Cambodian troops opened fire on Thai forces in Ubon Ratchathani province.
“Thai soldiers were attacked with supporting fire weapons, resulting in one soldier killed and four wounded," he said.
