Sensex Today: Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed sharply lower on Monday amid a lack of fresh domestic triggers.
By 3:30 PM, the BSE Sensex had slipped 609.68 points, or 0.71 per cent, to 85,102.69, while the NSE Nifty50 settled at 25,960.55, down 225.90 points, or 0.86 per cent. During the session, the Nifty dropped to an intraday low of 25,892, and the Sensex declined to 84,875.5.
On the BSE, Bharat Electronics, Eternal, Trent, Tata Steel and Bajaj Finance emerged as the top laggards, shedding up to 4.8 per cent. Tech Mahindra was the sole gainer on the Sensex, rising 1.3 per cent.
Broader markets also mirrored the weakness. The Nifty Midcap 100 index ended 1.83 per cent lower, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 index declined 2.6 per cent.
