PROSSER, Wash. – A house fire broke out in the 21600 block of N. Missimer Road in Prosser, causing significant damage to a single-family home Sunday night.

Captain Andy Babcock of West Benton Fire and Rescue told NonStop Local that a neighbor alerted 911 to the fire, which was visibly burning from the roof.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames at the rear of the house. They extinguished the fire but not before the home sustained extensive smoke and water damage.

The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. The blaze originated on the rear porch, where a heat lamp was in use, according to the ongoing investigation.

The home has been deemed uninhabitable, and the occupants are receiving assistance with temporary housing.
