On This Day In 2011: Following the footsteps of his idol and batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag became the second man on the planet to script a double century in One-Day Internationals on December 8, 2011. The swashbuckling opener, who had envied the incredible landmark ever since Tendulkar hammered the South Africans in Gwalior for his 200* in February 2010, took less than 18 months to replicate the feat in scintillating fashion.
Staying back in India for the ODI series versus the West Indies when multiple senior pros, including Tendulkar, had gone early for the subsequent Test series in Australia, Sehwag achieved his dream milestone. He blazed a remarkable 219 off just 149 deliveries, including 25 fours and 7 sixes, in the fourth ODI of the five-match series in Indore.
