A total of 840 homes in County Durham have been left without power this morning due to an unplanned cut.

Residents living in Trimdon Colliery, Trimdon Grange and Wheatley Hill saw their power cut off at around 8am on Monday (December 8).

According to the Northern Powergrid site, engineers are aware of the problem and power is expected to be restored between 9am and 10am.

A spokesperson said: "Our team are trying to get the power back on quickly by switching electricity through alternative routes on our network."
