The Centre revealed on Monday that the total number of government employees currently stands at 50.14 lakh, and there are approximately 69 lakh pensioners who will benefit from the implementation of the 8th Central Pay Commission.

“The number of central government employees is 50.14 lakh, and the number of pensioners is 69 lakh approximately,” Pankaj Chaudhary, minister of state in the Ministry of Finance, told Lok Sabha in a written reply dated December 8, 2025.

The minister of state was replying to questions raised by the members of Parliament —NK Premchandran, Thiru Thanga Tamilselvan, Ganapathy Rajkumar P, and Dharmendra Yadav — in the Lok Sabha over issues including the implementation date of the 8th CPC as well as the finalization of Terms of Reference (ToR).
