The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has released more details about the fatal shooting by deputies of a man who allegedly charged at them with a knife in San Jose on Monday evening.
The man, whose name has not been released, was pulled over by deputies shortly before 7:30 p.m. Monday near Fruitdale and Leigh avenues and allegedly began acting erratically and refused to comply with the deputies' commands, then barricaded himself inside the car, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release Tuesday.
A standoff then ensued that lasted more than two hours while deputies and members of the sheriff's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team tried to de-escalate the situation, sheriff's officials said.
