The R&A has adjusted the dates of its three major championships in 2028 to avoid conflict with the Los Angeles Olympic Games that summer.

Its three majors, the Open Championship, the ISPS HANDA Senior Open and the AIG Women's Open, will be held three consecutive weeks in August, following the conclusion of the 2028 Olympics in the United States.

The 156th Open will be held Aug. 3-6, 2028. The next week, the Senior Open will be held Aug. 10-13. Then the AIG Women's Open will be contested Aug. 17-20. Sites for all three championships will be announced at a later date.

"We have worked collaboratively with the relevant bodies and our partners to agree alternative dates for staging our major championships in 2028 to accommodate the Olympic golf competitions," Mark Darbon, the chief executive of the R&A, said in a release. "We appreciate the constructive discussions we have had with all of the stakeholders and believe that providing clarity on the dates now will assist with the planning of the global golf calendar in 2028."

Darbon also confirmed the Open would return to a mid-July date in 2029.

The golf portion of the Olympics will be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. The men's individual competition takes place from Wednesday, July 19, to Saturday, July 22. Then the new mixed-team format will occur on Sunday, July 23 and Monday, July 24. Then the women take center stage from Wednesday, July 26, to Saturday, July 29.

Riviera is the yearly host of the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational and is set to host the 2026 U.S. Women's Open, as well. Other notable events at Riviera include the 1948 U.S. Open, the 1983 and 1995 PGA Championships and the 2017 U.S. Amateur.
