Environment and Climate Change Canada is advising residents in southern Manitoba to brace for a blast of winter weather as a fast-moving system approaches the Prairies.

In a special weather statement issued Monday morning, the agency said a developing low-pressure system is expected to form east of the Rocky Mountains Monday night before tracking into Saskatchewan and Manitoba on Tuesday. The system is forecast to bring a mix of freezing rain, strong winds and accumulating snow.

Communities under the advisory include Brandon, Dauphin and Roblin, along with portions of southeast Saskatchewan.
