Twin earthquakes struck off the coast of Japan on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The first, a magnitude 7.6 quake, hit 84 km east-northeast of Misawa in Aomori Prefecture at 11.15 pm local time. According to the USGS, it originated at a depth of 53.1 km.

The second earthquake, measuring magnitude 5.5, occurred 96 km east-northeast of Hachinohe, off its coast, with a depth of 44.3 km.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a tsunami advisory following the tremors. There are no immediate reports of injuries or property damage. Authorities are assessing the situation and monitoring for potential aftershocks. More details are awaited.
