About a year after axing hundreds of employees, Mohawk College is hoping to further trim its payroll in another round of buyouts.

On Thursday, the college offered voluntary exit packages for full-time permanent employees, including faculty and administrative and support staff, spokesperson Sean Coffey said in an email.

Eligible employees must apply by the end of January, he said.

In late 2024 and early 2025, the college axed at least 380 employees and suspended more than a dozen programs as the institution faced a $50-million deficit amid declining international student enrolment.

The 2025-26 budget was ultimately balanced.

The exit option is part of the next year’s budget planning, which is in the initial stages and won’t be finalized until into 2026, Coffey said.
