Srinagar ~ Police on Monday arrested Shakeel Bakhshi, former leader of the now-defunct Islamic Students League, in connection with a decades-old case from Srinagar, reports said.
Bakhshi, a resident of Ziyarat Batmaloo currently living in Gousia Colony, Bemina, was taken into custody from the Lower Court Bemina area. The arrest pertains to FIR No. 192 of 1996, registered at Police Station Shergari on July 17, 1996. The case includes charges under Sections 307, 341, 148, 336 and 332 of the Ranbir Penal Code, along with Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, police said.
Police officials said the arrest is part of an ongoing drive to trace individuals wanted in long-pending cases. They added that all legal formalities are being completed
