Man City could condemn Xabi Alonso to unemployment if they can sink his Real Madrid at the Bernabeu this week.

Madrid’s form this season, while far from poor, has not met the sparkling standards set by the club’s higher-ups, who will not settle for second place in La Liga.

Reports coming out of Spain claim that Alonso has lost the dressing room, and that after Sunday’s defeat by mid-table Celta Vigo , the Spaniard has just 90 minutes left to save his job.

Pep Guardiola, comparatively, is on top of the world. His City team were at their brilliant best as they swatted Sunderland at the weekend , with Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden both dazzling in the 3-0 win which saw them cut the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just two points.
