President Donald Trump is lashing out at CBS News over a Lesley Stahl interview with Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Trump took to Truth Social in a Dec. 8 post to address friend-turned-foe Greene after the Georgia congresswoman blamed him for threats against her family and said he had been "unkind" to her in recent weeks.
In his comments, Trump referenced a July legal settlement for $16 million with the network's parent company Paramount over an interview he claimed was edited to favor of former Vice President Kamala Harris during last year's election.
"THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE OLD OWNERSHIP, who just paid me millions of Dollars for FAKE REPORTING about your favorite President, ME!" Trump wrote. "Since they bought it, 60 Minutes has actually gotten WORSE! Oh well, far worse things can happen."
Paramount Global and Skydance Media merged in August to form the standalone entertainment company simply called Paramount. Then, in October, CBS News named Bari Weiss its new editor-in-chief and acquired her news site The Free Press. Some talent shuffling has taken place since: "CBS Evening News" anchors Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson left the network while the media world awaits the fate of "CBS Mornings" star Gayle King.
Trump called Greene – who announced her U.S. House resignation Nov. 22 – a version of his new nickname "Marjorie Traitor Greene," which the former Make America Great Again favorite referenced in her interview with Stahl.
"The only reason Marjorie 'Traitor' Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!)," Trump wrote. "Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD - She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple!"
Greene said in the "60 Minutes" interview that she received threats to her son's life and a pipe bomb threat at her home after the president first coined her a traitor. "The subject line for the direct death threats on my son was his words, 'Marjorie Traitor Greene," Greene added.
She also claimed Trump sent a response that "wasn't very nice" after she attempted to address the threats with him, calling the president's reply "extremely unkind" without offering specific details. Trump also that Stahl was "washed up" and "Trump hating."
Greene has long claimed, as she did in the "60 Minutes" segment, that her falling out with Trump revolves around his frustration with her for advocating to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. In his return to public office, the American people have renewed interest in the connections of affluent figures' connections to the convicted sex offender, an ex-friend of Trump.
Trump has said publicly that Greene began pushing back against him and House Republicans because he failed to support her potential 2026 bid against Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff.
