UNC basketball ’s strong start to December vaulted the Tar Heels up national polls and the NET rankings.
The Tar Heels (8-1) are No. 15 in the latest USA TODAY Sports coaches poll, which was released on Monday, Dec. 8. UNC, which was at No. 17, started its week with a win at Kentucky in the ACC/SEC Challenge before closing the week with a blowout victory against Georgetown at the Smith Center.
Freshman guard Derek Dixon made the go-ahead layup in the win at Rupp Arena and had a season-high in points against the Hoyas. But the Tar Heels continued to be led by their elite frontcourt duo of freshman forward Caleb Wilson (19.3 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game) and junior center Henri Veesaar (16.2 ppg, 9.2 rbg).
