New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick J. Callahan will retire at the end of 2025 after more than three decades with the division, Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Dec 8.
Callahan, who has led the state police through major emergencies including Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts and the COVID-19 pandemic response, will step down on Dec. 31, 2025. He will not be renominated by the incoming administration.
“Colonel Callahan embodies the very essence of a career public servant,” Murphy said in a statement, praising his “unwavering commitment” to the state police values of honor, duty and fidelity. Murphy called Callahan “an indispensable member of my Cabinet” and “a dear friend.”
