Filipino community and health care advocates rallied outside the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma on Sunday to protest the expected deportation of a longtime green card holder from the Philippines who has spent months facing serious health threats during his detention.
Greggy Sorio, 37, was anemic and passing blood in his stool when he was brought to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma in late October, his attorney Louise Carhart said.
Advocates, human rights organizations and government agencies have for years called attention to poor conditions at the Tacoma detention center. People who’ve been held there report having limited access to basic hygiene supplies like soap and long wait times when they’re in need of medical treatment.
