City council members went head-to-head Monday in their annual potato-bagging contest at the Calgary Food Bank — a component of their annual December challenge to raise the most money and food donations for the local non-profit, as it continues to face rising demand.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas, councillors and their ward staff were at the food bank’s main warehouse in Alyth/Bonnybrook bright and early to bag as many potatoes as they could in 15 minutes.
Ward 6 Coun. John Pantazopoulos and his team ultimately won the friendly competition, bagging 880 pounds of potatoes.
