Police on Friday identified the man fatally shot this week in East Boston as Nazir Wallace, 21, of Cambridge.

Wallace was pronounced dead at a hospital following the shooting at 27 Havre St. Tuesday evening, the Boston Police Department said in a statement.

The shooting occurred around 5:50 p.m., the statement said.

The investigation is ongoing.

If Wallace’s death is ruled a homicide, it would be the 31st this year, compared to 22 for the same period last year, police statistics show.
