An alliance of Newcastle bars and pubs has lost a legal challenge against the STACK fanzone outside St James’ Park. After the popular venue was granted a five-year extension to its planning permission by Newcastle City Council earlier this year, the NE1 Hospitality Group sought to have that overturned in the High Court.
Rival operators have argued that the success of the STACK was taking away vital trade from others and alleged that the decision to allow it to stay open until 2031 was “unlawful”. But a judge has now ruled in the council’s favour and dismissed the application for a judicial review.
