WASHINGTON — A person of interest related to the shooting of New York Jets player Kris Boyd is in custody, The US Marshal's Buffalo office confirmed .
A 20-year-old man from the Bronx surrendered himself to authorities on Monday in Amherst, a suburb east of Buffalo, New York, weeks after the NYPD released images of the wanted gunman.
The person will return to New York City to face charges. The U.S. Marshals Service and New York Police Department were both involved in the apprehension of the "person of interest," sources told NBC News .
Boyd, a 29-year-old cornerback for the Jets, was critically shot in the abdomen on Nov. 16 around 2 a.m. on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, the New York Post reported at the time. Law enforcement sources told the outlet the shooting happen
