The last time Penn State attracted a head coach from Iowa State nearly 17 years ago has seemed to work out pretty well.
So when new head football coach Matt Campbell was introduced to the Penn State community on Monday, the former Iowa State football coach revealed that he’d recently had a 45-minute telephone conversation with current Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson, who won four NCAA titles for Iowa State and spent about 10 years in Ames, Iowa, as an athlete, assistant coach and head coach.
Sanderson has won 12 NCAA wrestling titles at Penn State since then.
About an hour after Campbell’s presser, Sanderson termed Campbell’s hire as “really exciting” at his own Monday media session.
“Obviously, he’s a great coach. We’ve been hearing about him for a long time,” Sanderson said
