The holiday’s are supposed to be the season to be jolly, not distracted.

That’s because getting distracted during the holidays can to an emergency room visit - and jolly tends to go out the window when that happens.

Christmas decorating-related injuries send 18,400 people to emergency rooms each year, according to the USAFacts.org website.

And it’s not just kids shooting their eyes out with BB guns either.

More than 25% of those trips involve middle-aged adults (40-60 years of age). Falls from ladders and extension cord mishaps are top culprits, according to the website, which was founded by former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

“There are inherent risks with hanging lights, cutting turkeys, wrapping gifts,” said emergency medicine physician with HonoHealth Dr. Kris Samaddar said.
