VIRGINIA BEACH — Longtime state Del. Barry Knight, a Republican who represents Virginia Beach, is battling health issues but expects to be present for the 2026 General Assembly session in January.

“I just had a little bump in the road,” said Knight, 71, during a phone interview from a local hospital where he’s been for the past five days.

In 2024, Knight was diagnosed with kidney cancer, specifically renal cell carcinoma, which metastasized in his shoulder, he said. He’s been treating the cancer, which was going well, but had a setback in September when he fell in his workshop and broke his arm. After Thanksgiving, he wasn’t feeling well and was admitted to the hospital.
