With increasing frequency, U.S. military forces have conducted attacks against boats the administration claims are transporting “narco-terrorists” or illegal drugs. President Donald Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth justify these attacks as part of the administration’s “war on cartels.” In the words of Hegseth, “We have only just begun to kill narco-terrorists.”
Thus far, more than 80 people alleged to be narco-terrorists have been killed since the first attack on Sept. 2. During that first attack, two persons survived the attack against their boat. The Washington Post recently reported that at the time of the strike Hegseth issued a verbal order to ensure that all crew members be killed.
