BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A Christmas tree honoring local military heroes is now on display in Baton Rouge City Hall.

This is the second year the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Veterans Affairs has put up the tree. It features over 200 names and pictures of active-duty military members, veterans, and fallen service men and women.

Officials believe the display serves as an important reminder of the sacrifices made by service members, especially during the holidays.

“So many people forget when we sit down for a meal and we’re with our loved ones and family, we forget those that are not there anymore or are overseas, some that might never come home, which is why I believe we should never forget those that are in the service,” said Elena Branzaru with the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Veterans.
