DES MOINES, Iowa —
The Des Moines city council approved a special incentive package Monday night, clearing the final hurdle to fund Iowa's first professional soccer stadium .
The council's tax break is the final element needed to begin building the $90 million soccer stadium downtown.
The project, spearheaded by former Kum & Go owner Kyle Krause and the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation, was first announced more than six years ago. It includes the pro soccer stadium and a global plaza, located on a former superfund site just south of the downtown area. The stadium will be home to both men's and women's soccer teams.
