Seasonal flu activity is up across the United States, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There was a 7.1% increase in positive influenza tests as of the week ending on Nov. 29. Additionally, there was a 2.9% increase in visits to health care providers for respiratory illness. Advertisement
The biggest increases were for children and young adults in the “northeastern and mountain west areas” of the United States, the CDC said in its most recent influenza surveillance report .
No flu-associated pediatric deaths have been reported. Last flu season, 287 pediatric deaths associated with influenza were reported — the highest since the 2009-2010 season when the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, caused the flu season to begin much earlier than normal.
