A left ankle sprain is expected to sideline Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner, the team announced on Monday.

Wagner suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's 106-100 loss to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

An MRI showed there was no damage to his knee, and that it's a high ankle sprain. While it is a serious injury, it's not the season-ending injury it looked like it could have been.

It's unclear how long Wagner will be out, saying it will depend on how he responds to treatment.

Wagner has had ankle issues in the past, missing eight games after spraining his other ankle.

The Magic hosts the Miami Heat on Tuesday in the NBA Cup quarter-final at the Kia Center.
