Longtime country music duo Maddie & Tae announced Monday they are splitting up in what they described as a “heartbreaking” decision.

Maddie Marlow Font and Tae Dye Kerr made their announcement to People magazine . However, the duo said the split shouldn’t be described as a breakup because they are not ruling out performing together in the future.

“We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day,” Font, 30, tells People. “We might go on some tour dates one day. But just in this season, it doesn’t feel aligned for us to do it together.”

Kerr reportedly plans to focus on her family — husband, Grammy-winning songwriter-producer Josh Kerr, and their two children.
