New requirements under the Ontario Fire Code go into effect on January 1, 2026, regarding the installation of carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, prompting the Brantford Fire Department to launch a campaign to educate homeowners and landlords.
Starting New Year’s Day, a CO alarm is required on every storey of a building, including those levels that do not have bedrooms. Additionally, a CO alarm is required next to every sleeping area, such as in a hallway outside of bedrooms.
