A Brantford woman dealing with long-term addictions agreed she needed to go to prison in order to turn her life around.
Amanda Witham, 47, told a provincial judge recently she wanted to get treatment to help stop a cycle of crimes she’s been committing for years.

“I need four walls to get clean,” Witham told Justice Brett Moodie, who agreed with her.
“Sometimes you can do it and sometimes the government is required to intervene to force you to get help because when you are not getting help … you’ve been committing crimes,” said the judge.
In June, just days apart, Witham threatened two store clerks, saying she had a gun as she robbed an Esso gas bar of alcohol and lottery tickets, and a Shoppers Drug Mart of chocolate, earrings and hair dye.
