The Swahid Smarak Kshetra stands as Assam’s first official memorial dedicated to the martyrs of the Movement era.

In a landmark moment for Assam’s collective memory, the state government will observe Swahid Diwas on 10 December at the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati. The memorial, dedicated to the martyrs of the historic 1979–1985 Assam Movement, will be opened to the public by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, marking a deeply emotional and long-awaited tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to protect Assamese identity.
