A snack food manufacturer has recalled packages of unsalted mixed nuts sold at Wegmans stores in nine U.S. states and Washington, DC, due to possible salmonella contamination, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration notice.
Mellace Family Brands California, Inc., based in northeastern Ohio, recalled packages of unsalted Wegmans Deluxe Mixed Nuts on Dec. 5, according to the FDA notice.
The recall of the mixed nuts stems from the discovery of raw pistachios that tested positive for salmonella, the manufacturer said.
"They have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella," the company shared in the announcement.
There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the recalled products, according to the manufacturer.
Here’s what to know about the ongoing recall.
Which states were the nuts sold in?
According to the recall announcement, the products were sold between Nov. 3, 2025, and Dec. 1, 2025, at Wegmans stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, DC.
How do I know if I have the recalled nuts?
The recalled products include unsalted Deluxe Mixed Nuts sold in plastic, 34-ounce tubs and smaller, 11½-ounce bags.
Customers who think they have the larger, plastic tubs should look on the side of the tub for:
- UPC 077890421314
- Lot code 58041
- Best buy date of July 28, 2026
Those who think they have the plastic bags of nuts should look on the back of the bag for:
- UPC 077890421352
- Lot code 58171
- Best buy date of Aug. 10, 2026
How did the manufacturer find out about the issue?
Mellace Family Brands California, Inc. discovered the possible salmonella contamination after a supplier did routine testing and found raw pistachios that tested positive for salmonella.
The company determined the contaminated raw pistachios were used to make the Deluxe Mixed Nuts products sold at Wegmans, prompting the recall.
Customers who need to return the nuts can do so at Wegmans' service desks for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Wegmans at 1-855-934-3663 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET.
What is salmonella?
Salmonella are bacteria that can make people sick, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The bacteria can spread through water, animals, people and other ways, but the most common source is food, the CDC said.
The public health agency estimates that most salmonella infections are linked to the consumption of contaminated chicken, beef, turkey, fruits, pork, vegetables with seeds, like tomatoes, and other produce, such as nuts. The agency added that all foods can become contaminated, including processed foods like flour.
Mellace Family Brands California, Inc. said in its recall announcement that some common symptoms of salmonella infections include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
In May, Florida-based company Bedner Growers Inc. recalled cucumbers due to possible salmonella contamination. While the outbreak has since ended, there were 69 reported cases and 22 hospitalizations across 21 states, such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Florida. There were no deaths in the outbreak, the CDC said.
